Just because I'm not Christian, doesn't mean I can't worship a Carpenter... Revisiting my interview with The Horror Master on the occasion of his 75th Birthday.
Great article! What I love about Carpenter is that he can make The Thing, Starman, Big Trouble, They Live, Prince of Darkness, Memoirs... and it's all him, all the way down to the font on the credits!
Re-watched "They Live" late last year with my wife - absolute classic! But like Rob, "The Thing" is my favourite John Carpenter, although "Big Trouble in Little China" is a close second. So many great movies to choose from!
So hard to pick a favourite..must be 'The Thing' though for the simple reason that friends who are neither horror, nor SF fans were clinging to their seats. Astounding work. Keep watching the skis! (sorry, Simpsonian slip)
Great Interview, Marshal. My favorite is still "The Thing", followed by "Prince of Darkness."
Thanks Dave! I’m probs just the other way around, but it’s close.

Yes he's a true auteur. One of just a few, I'd say.
I have to go with Big Trouble in Little China. I also love the music in his movies. You hear that music and you know it's a John Carpenter flick.
Yes agreed! What's your favourite Carpenter theme? Mine's Escape From New York. So much coolness!
Tough. Again, probably the music in BIG Trouble, but New York is great too. And Halloween is such an iconic theme.

It's nice being spoilt for choice!

I agree The Thing is hard to beat. Hard to believe it flopped when originally released.
Didn’t know that…I remember local newspapers showing pictures of terrified film goers - success!
